TED University Architecture and Design Faculty’s mission is to constitute a school of architecture, design and planning, nationally and internationally recognized in education, research and professional field. Among the major learning outcomes, although changing from department to department, are innovativeness in design, analytical thinking, conducting scientific research, synthesizing interdisciplinary knowledge, graphical representation capability, knowledge on global design movements and local cultural heritage, and apprehension of sustainability as a first priority design phenomenon. It is our objective that the graduates will have pioneering roles in local and international context as architects, designers and planners.
Our faculty’s vision is to include all scales of design compatibly in undergraduate and graduate education and research. In our five departments –Architecture, City and Regional Planning, Graphical Communication Design, Industrial Design and Interior Architecture Environmental Design- we present a wide spectrum design education.
Project studios are situated at the core of our departments’ educational and research activities. The design education model based on peer-learning and learning and researching by projects, which has been recently promoted in university education, constitutes the spine of departments’ curricula. Since the design studio courses are conducted open and are made public by juries and exhibitions, the students of different departments do have the opportunity to widen their visions by following design exercises from urban scale, to buildings, interiors, products and graphics. We construct the undergraduate and graduate studio projects as research activities and starting from our first departments we have been regularly publishing the studio works in book format.
We have a substantial academic staff formed of experienced and young academicians who are experts in a wide variety of fields and some are awarded designers and acknowledged researchers. In the studio courses we include prominent architect, designer and planner professionals as instructors. By this way, apart from having the experience-based contribution of the professionals, the students have the opportunity to start constructing their professional networks during education. Our objective is to concentrate on contemporary issues and to facilitate “research by design” in undergraduate and graduate education and academic activities.
We give priority to conduct education in international standards and to strengthen international collaborations. Architecture Department is a member of European Association of Architecture Education (EAAE) and in 2023 the department had six years (conditional) accreditation of national Architecture Accreditation Association (MiAK). City and Regional Planning Department is a member of Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP). Departments of Graphical Communication Design, Industrial Design and Interior Architecture Environmental Design are at the membership stage of Global Association of Art and Design Education (CUMULUS). TEDU Architecture Department has consulted the foundation of AKFA University Architecture and Design Faculty Tashkent Uzbekistan (Central Asian University after 2023) between 2020-2023.
Our efforts in making the faculty a research center in architecture, design and planning is ongoing. Our departments define their disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary research agenda. Some research topics conducted by the faculty are: digital design, digital humanities, urban geography, urban design, architectural and urban history, conservation of modern buildings, museum and exhibition design, lightening, user experience design, visual studies, cultural studies, new media studies, climate change and sustainability, medical equipment design and design education.
We invite you to take part in TEDU school of architecture, design and planning.
